Designing a good product is an act of creative problem solving, where designers deal with a lot of variables in various fields. Also, a designer has to know what to keep and what to 'throw away'. Depending on the scope of a design assignment, activities can range from investigating what the true (future) needs of different stakeholders are, up to optimizing a product for (mass-) production. Product design is foremost an interdisciplinary activity; a good designer can communicate effectively with experts in different fields. As an Industrial Design student I have a lot of experience working on projects in teams, as well as designing products for a broad range of industries. This experience gives me confidence in my ability as a designer, even when a project starts with major uncertainties or vague assumptions.
